![]() I'm a big fan of virtualization and vdi.just not sure why I need to Horizon to accomplish this in my current environment. These are benefits of VMware (actually any type of virtual machine) in general, not Horizon specifically. It's secure in that there's no physical access to the "box" it's running on. It can take care of the redirection and provide an entry point for other technologies like using instant clones instead of full desktops. If you're looking at profile redirection, take a serious look at Dynamic Environment Manager. These can be from RDSH and now, even from Windows 10 desktop VMs. The ability to offer remote applications. Further, clones can be created on demand and scale to large numbers. Clones take up a fraction of the disk space of a full clone or full desktop VM. They can be clones, either full clones, now-deprecated linked clones or instant clones. The ability to offer desktops that don't take up a lot of space or require full PCs to run on. You can get a desktop (or YOUR OWN desktop) from the office, from home, from the beach if there's Wi-Fi there, from the bedroom, bathroom, grandma's house after Thanksgiving dinner, etc. ![]() It's secure in that there's no physical access to the "box" it's running on.Īccess from anywhere. a couple of the big benefits of Horizon (using multiple monitor with Windows 7 is a new one to me): Mostly I'm wondering if/why I should continue paying the licensing fees for something with little benefit. Since all our machines are persistent, we never spin up any clones, and since they're all either Windows Server or Windows 10, plain old RDP allows multiple monitors for end users.Īm I missing a benefit here? I hear people say VMWare Blast is a slightly better protocol than RDP, but I don't really care about minor differences. My understanding is that the biggest benefit of Horizon is the ability to spin up clones on demand, and the biggest benefit of the Horizon Client was the ability to let Windows 7 machines use multiple monitors (because Win 7 RDP restricted the client to a single monitor). I intend to implement redirected folders to a file server, but haven't done that yet. Some users have roaming profiles and some only have local profiles. The desktops are in a pool, but they are also assigned so users always get the same desktop. The environment I inherited currently consists of roughly 20 servers and 60 persistent windows desktops. The terraces also allow the interior spaces within to open up towards the amazing views of the surrounding river valley.I'm curious about the benefits of Horizon and the Horizon Client. These terraces are designed to ground the building and create a strong relationship to the natural landscape. ![]() Underneath the main sculptural metal and glass volume, a series of solid aluminum terraces step down the hillside to create a strong base for the main volume. These plates are attached to the main structure through a lightweight steel skeletal framework that helps frame views and balances a sense of openness versus privacy. ![]() The screened façade is comprised of angled and perforated metal plates to capture and reflect light, creating a sense of wave-like movement. Sitting on top of the hill, the three-storey glass volume is wrapped with a lightweight, screened façade. ![]() The exterior of the main building is designed with unique forms and materials. All spaces have direct connection to external terraces to provide views and access to the surrounding landscape. The lower levels provide leisure and wellness amenities including an indoor pool, gym, and children’s play areas. This large, light filled atrium links all main functions together and serves as a reception and exhibition hall. The clubhouse will act as a main gateway into the new development and was designed as a dynamic pairing with a future office tower adjacent to the site.ĭesigned as a space to host community events and social gatherings, the clubhouse is organised around a multi-storey grand atrium that opens up towards the residential scheme. The clubhouse, a circa 9,000sqm building spread across 5 floors, is located on a steeply sloped hillside adjacent to the main entrance of a new residential development. Its strong, dynamic forms and materials have helped to make the building an object of art itself, in addition to the exhibitions within. The new clubhouse has become not only a new symbol of a wider development but also a new icon in Chongqing. “We are delighted to see that our design for the Wide Horizon Clubhouse has come to fruition. Inspired by the natural mountains and lush topography of the immediate Chongqing context, the building sits proudly on the top of a hill like a sculpture with its lower levels cascading down the hillside.īarry Shapiro, Asia Managing Partner, comments: ![]()
